Brief History
Nestled in the scenic landscape of Sidhi district in Madhya Pradesh, the Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve stands as a wildlife haven, established in 1975. This reserve holds historical significance, as it was the forest where the world-famous white tiger "MOHAN" was discovered and rescued by the Maharaja of Rewa in 1951. Notably, Mohan played a pivotal role in the captive breeding program, becoming the progenitor of many white tigers found in zoos worldwide.
Honoring this legacy, a park range within Sanjay-Dubri Tiger Reserve bears the name of this iconic White Tiger – "Mohan." Today, these lush Sal forests not only serve as the habitat for majestic tigers and a myriad of other wild species but also function as a crucial wildlife corridor, connecting the Bandhavgarh and Palamau Tiger Reserves. The reserve's significance extends beyond its borders, occasionally providing temporary shelter to wild elephants from the neighbouring Chhattisgarh area.
